The Story of Bluebell
Bluebell is a pit bull rescued by VIAS from deplorable conditions. From the wire cage he was stuffed in it was obvious this poor animal suffered unbearable mistreatment. He was covered in bite marks so we suspected he was used for fighting. He has been fully vetted and neutered and his wounds have healed nicely. Despite previous mistreatment he absolutely loves people, adults and children. But he does not however like other dogs or animals and was super aggressive with them. Bluebell needed rehabilitation and training.
Thanks to a fundraiser, enough money was raised to send Bluebell to training with Brian Pruitt of PR Pit Bull River Rescue.

Brian and his team slowly introduced Bluebell to the rest of the dogs at the river rescue so that Bluebell became more comfortable with the pack. It all started with observations from a far (from a higher deck) so that Bluebell could see the others but not have contact. And eventually was separated by just the fence.
It wasn’t easy and at times stressful, as Brian must protect all the animals they have in his care. In the video showing Bluebell going to the river for the first time, Brian had to cut short filming because he was nervous for the other dog Sweetie, but progress was being made.
Within 96 hours of arriving Bluebell became trusting and intrigued, if not comfortable, with the other dogs. With each trip to the river Bluebell became more-and-more at ease with the other dogs. However, due to her early mistreatment, she never progressed to being adoptable. Instead she will spend her days at a caring pit bull sanctuary on the main island.
